DAY 1: 1.7.18 - MIA → NOLA
IT'S ROAD TRIP TIME!!!
Have you ever taken a cross-country road trip? We can check that off our bucket list! But who are we kidding? We want to do it AGAIN! We did it in 5 days! Wish we were on the road longer, but we needed to get to San Diego by the 11th to prepare ourselves for our first event with Barrio Logan Flea Market on the 13th of January.
Being on the road for so long gave us the opportunity to learn new languages such as Portuguese and Italian and practice our Spanish through lessons on SPOTIFY.
What helps you pass time on the road? Let us know and leave a comment below.
DAY 2: 1.8.18 - EXPLORE NOLA
We were able to learn so much in just one full day in New Orleans, LA. We woke up early in the morning and had breakfast next door from the hotel called, MERCHANT.
After eating, we bought tickets to do a city tour on the Cajun Encounters Tour Company. This was the best decision EVER! We truly got to know the city in just a matter of 2 hours. The bus tour took us to the:
- Bourbon Street, where the party is at!
- Frenchmen Street, where jazz music is ALIVE and heard in every corner.
- Canal Street, where the Spanish and French used to be divided. They would meet at the median or what they call, the Neutral Ground, in which they had their meetings and made important decisions.
- Ninth Ward, where Hurricane Katrina struck the hardest.
- St. Louis Cemetery No.3
- St. Charles Street, where Mardi Gras is located. We saw many beads all over trees, power lines, houses, balconies, etc.
- Morning Call Coffee Stand where we tried our very first Beignet!
After the tour, we walked around the city some more and took photos at River Walk!
Then, we went for our second round of Beignets and some hot chocolate at the famous, CAFE DU MONDE!
We ended the night at Frenchmen Street with some live Jazz music and drinks of course.
DAY 3: 1.9.18 - NOLA → VERNON, TX
This day was very relaxing - we were on the road for 10.5 hours.
We drove to Vernon, TX just a couple of hours away from Amarillo.
DAY 4: 1.10.18 - VERNON, TX → AMARILLO, TX → ROUTE 66 → ROSWELL, NM → DEMING, NM
WAAVENTURES OF CADILLAC RANCH
The most ADVENTUROUS day of them all! Woke up to what we felt, IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, to then driving to Amarillo, TX to see Cadillac Ranch! What an incredible artwork built in the 1970s from hippie artists who lived in San Francisco, CA. There were a total of 10 Cadillac automobiles in a row, from oldest to newest, half-buried nose-first in the ground!
We weren’t expecting to paint on the cars, but when we got there an older couple gave us two bottles of spray paint! We got really excited! Our mom spray painted our family hashtag, #SARDIPARTY and we painted WAA on the cars.
Dancing our way to SAN DIEGO!
We danced around the cars and breathed in every moment of this amazing journey!
WAAVENTURES OF ROUTE 66
After driving for 5 miles on what we THOUGHT was Route 6, we realized we were actually on a street that ran next to it. We didn’t drive all the way here to NOT drive on the Mother Road! So we made a U-turn to start over and finally got on ROUTE 66!
We found this sign at Adrian, TX, where Midpoint Cafe is located.
We then continued driving to Roswell, NM and saw the city of aliens! Where supposedly a UFO crashed in the 1940s. We then continued driving and it began to get dark. We noticed the roads were winding and the temperature dropping to low 30s, and the rain turned into flurries. We got kind of nervous so we drove for a few more hours and stopped again IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE at Deming, NM.
DAY 5: 1.11.18 - DEMING, NM → SAN DIEGO, CA
WE MADE IT TO SAN DIEGO!!
